Spring at Descanso Gardens, La Canada, California
This is one of my favorite views at Descanso, showing a slowly flowing stream lined with brilliant azaleas, camellias, cherry blossoms and Japanese maples in early spring. A bright red arched footbridge over the stream leads to a tranquil Japanese garden that blends design elements of classis tea, strolling and zen gardens. Upon crossing the arched bridge, one can stroll on shaded paths along a koi fish-filled stream to a Japanese teahouse for a peaceful, tranquil experience.
Descanso is a 150 acres botanical garden in La Canada Flintridge, Los Angeles County, California, not far from my home. It has many floral gardens in a unique and natural setting, with wonderful displays of annuals and perennials such as azaleas, daffodils, irises, lilacs, orchids, and tulips. Framed against a hillside of chaparral is the Native Plant Garden. These wonderfully varied gardens provide a peaceful stroll amidst some of the greatest natural splendor in all of California. There are ponds with ducks, as well as a variety of other birds at the Bird Observation Station on a lakeshore. A Tea House offers a relaxing rest stop that overlooks the Japanese Garden.
