Description
I am finally getting around to some o the material we collected seven months ago. On our early fall trip to South Dakota, we spent a good block of time in and out of Custer State Park. I believe one of the reasons we keep going back, is that in Custer alone, there are over 71,000 acres to discover. My only advice if you plan a trip, don’t have deadlines. Don’t be in a hurry. Have the luxury of being able to take your time, and perhaps visit a few of your favorite spots at different times of day. Because I’m comfortable with the equipment we have, we often find ourselves on roads that aren’t on any of the maps. “Didn’t we see Antelope down this road last year?” I asked of Sherry. Before she can respond, we find ourselves on a somewhat worn “cow-path”, meandering down “the road less traveled”. One of my favorite animals to seek out is the Pronghorn Antelope. Dad always said, “They will see you, long before you can see them…”. On this trip, we found a small herd just over the hill in a tall-grass pasture. They were bedded down when we first spotted them, but grew nervous the longer we sat. Eventually the entire herd was standing, and slowly increasing the distance between us. Not before we could snap off a few dozen phots for use later…
