Description
The Vietnam Veterans Memorial is a 2-acre (8,000 m) national memorial in Washington, DC. It honors U.S. service members of the U.S. armed forces who fought in the Vietnam War, service members who died in service in Vietnam/South East Asia, and those service members who were unaccounted for (Missing In Action) during the War.
The tourist's reflection is a Soldier from the Vietnam Era reflected back to him through the wall. Where there is a book there is a gun, and where there is a uniform, there is a hoody. The reflected soldier is actually removed from the adjoining 3 soldier statue around the corner that is also part of this monument. This tribute helps to emphasize the dichotomy of the different times of war and peace, and the differences especially of this very turbulent time period where so many people were killed listed by the hundreds of thousands on the reflected wall.
