The first (and nearly only) snow of 2016 hit on a day I was visiting my mother, 50 miles from home. It started snowing early in the day, and by the time I was ready to head for home, it was late afternoon, with quite a bit of snow on the ground. It was beautiful, and I had my camera with me - but I needed to drive home before it got dark, and the roads were lousy. I started heading for home lamenting all the beauty I saw but could not capture.
I made one stop on the way home at a Starbucks in Hainesville, Illinois. When I was growing up, this was a small town with nothing in it, except police who liked lie in wait for speeders. Now, it had a Starbucks and a lot more people and houses.
However, I looked over when I came out with my hot mocha espresso, and saw this. I had to grab my camera and just get off a few quick clicks.
So yes, I had to drive all the way home without stopping to capture the beautiful day; but I had this one shot. And if I took a picture of what this exact spot looks like today, without the fog and the beautiful wet snow weighing down the leaves of a long fall still clinging to the trees, you would not believe it. But on this day, at this time, draped in this blanket of white fantasy, it was the most beautiful place on earth.

Ha! Thanks so much, Connie. I have a large print of this framed in my office. It reminded me through the winter of how beautiful it can be. My husband and I stopped at the same Starbucks a few weeks ago. I could not believe this beautiful scene was taken there! Made me grateful for those special moments God gives us to glimpse the beauty of creation.

Thanks Lori! I was back there a couple weeks ago and looked at the exact spot this was taken and had to laugh. Fog and pretty snow really did a transformation on this little spot. Thanking God for this special gift that day!
