Smooth Before Rugged
Photograph - Digital Photograph
My fascination with dunes continues. We spent three days at Great Sand Dunes National Park and Preserve in southern Colorado. The beauty of the dunes and the mountains in the background is magnificent. This image is a closer view of the contrast between the smooth, graceful forms of the dunes and the rugged, rocky flank of the Sangre De Cristo (Blood of Christ) Mountains. Such contrasts are fascinating to me as they demonstrate the huge variety of natural forms on the surface of Earth's crust. This was captured during early morning hours to catch the low angle of the sun which emphasizes the shadows.
