Smoky Mountain Splendor
As I venture out to watch and photograph the setting sun, I never know what I will see or if I'll see anything at all. Often, the skies look clear from the lower elevations but once in the high country, the views can be completely blocked by clouds. Often, I find myself reciting a famous line from the movie, Forrest Gump about life being like a box of chocolates. Sunsets, truly are like a box of chocolates and I never know what I will get, if anything at all. Each sunset seems to change and take on a personality of it's own as each minute passes. Regardless of how many times I take in the sunset from the same spot, each is entirely different and keeps me looking forward to the next.
One of my favorite locations to photograph the setting sun over the mountains of North Carolina is from Waterrock Knob on the Blue Ridge Parkway. Here, the sun is directly above Clingman's Dome, highest point in Great Smoky Mountains National Park.
