This is a 21st Century false color infrared (IR) mind blowing photograph of a big sky cloud formation over the small farming village of Vihre, Slovenia. The beautiful summer clouds are formed by turbulence of wind coming over the Alps.
Vihre is a village in the Municipality of Krško in eastern Slovenia (population 152 in 2002). It lies between the right bank of the Sava River and the A2 Autobahn from Ljubljana to Zagreb near the end of the Dolenjska Valley. The area was traditionally part of Lower Carniola. It is now included with the rest of the municipality in the Lower Sava Statistical Region.
The local church, built southeast of the village, is dedicated to Saint Ulrich and belongs to the Parish of Leskovec pri Krškem. It was built in the 15th century and greatly rebuilt in the late 19th century.
This rich agricultural area has an ancient history. Parts of buildings and the eastern necropolis of the ancient Roman town of Neviodunum have been excavated close to the settlement.
Infrared Photography is an interpretation of what we think is reality. The function of Infrared Photography (like Black and White Photography) is not to render the world as we see it, but rather to use light, dark and false color to enhance texture and composition. The invisible infrared light has a profound influence on the texture of the sky and clouds that is not seen in visible light photography. This photo was taken with an Infrared modified Nikon D3300.
