When I first moved to Bowling Green, Kentucky from New Orleans, I was amazed by the little park named Fountain Square where the town would get together and enjoy the summer concert series! Families would bring blankets, chairs and picnic baskets to dance and sing along with the bands every Wednesday afternoon and on Friday evenings. The summer finale concert on a Friday night in August would always be hosted by the hometown favorite band of local guys “Skip Bond & the Fugitives” who would play under the Capital Theatre marquee. They needed to because everyone danced in the street to their R&B, Motown and Rock music-they needed the room!
Sadly, Skip Bond & the Fugitives no longer play under the Capitol marquee across from Fountain Square, they close out the concert series a few blocks away at Circus Square Park.
As an artist, I am glad I painted this remembrance of days gone by…a summer’s night filled with great music by a fantastic band under the neon lights on Main St, USA!
