Simon Bolivar was a Venezuelan military and political leader known as "The Liberator" of Venezuela, Ecuador, Bolivia, Peru and Colombia from Spanish rule in the early 1800s. He also served as President of the Second Republic of Venezuela. This bronze equestrian statue of Bolivar was made by Felix W. de Weldon in the mid-1950s and was dedicated on February 28, 1959 in Washington, DC. The statue is at 18th and C Streets, and Virginia Avenue, NW, near the United States Department of the Interior.
