Description
A Yellow Buff Orpington/Rhodebar, shows off her lovely tail feathers.
"Shake a Tail Feather," the song, was recorded in 1963 by Chicago-based group The Five Du-Tones - this version was later used in the 1988 film soundtrack "Hairspray."
Bird Talk:
Barking: Excited or when trying to prove dominance.
Beak Clicking: Bird feels threatened or is protecting something.
Beak Grinding: Secure and content feeling or wants to sleep.
Beak Wiping: Normal when cleaning their beaks, dislodging something, or aggravated and upset.
Biting: Trying to get a message across that wasn't previously received.
Chattering: Telling you about something, whether it is loud or soft. Young birds will chirp or chatter for food. Chattering or calling loudly could signal something is wrong - such as a predator.
Crouching: Crouching with head toward owner means the bird wants to be petted. Always pet in the direction of the feathers, never against them - it could be painful especially when molting. Ours will crouch and then stretch upward while prancing to be picked up. Crouching with head down, relaxed body and raised wings, the bird wants attention. Crouching with head down, eyes pinning, flared tail, ruffled, and a rigid body... it's a warning - back off.
Flashing or Dilating Pupils: Could be aggression, excitement, nervousness, or pleasure. Again, may be a good idea to back off.
Growling: Back off, or in the case of our flock it could mean a predator is close either in the sky or on ground.
Head Snaking: Shaking from side to side could mean they're excited.
Panting: The bird is overheated, overexerted and uncomfortable.
Talking: Content and happy, or sending a message to the another bird or owner. Our girls especially like to talk in soft carefree bawks while they're being talked to.
Tail Bobbing: Could mean that it's sick. It also may be they are talking or singing.
Tail Fanning: Indication it's unhappy about something and could become aggressive.
Tail Wagging: Much like dogs, this communicates that the bird is content or happy.
Wing Drooping: Could be the bird just bathed and holding wings to dry. If the bird is young - may not have learned how to hold wings yet. It could be overheated and trying to cool itself. This also may be a sign that the bird is sick.
Wing Flipping: It may be annoyance, fear, or the bird lost it's balance.
Wing and Body Quivering: Fear of something in direct environment.
Wing Drumming: Exercise or boredom. It could also be the bird is protecting it's territory.
