Description
Seville, Plaza del Pan - 03
In medieval times it is known as San Salvador, by the immediate collegiate of the same name.
In the seventeenth century, its new place name, the Plaza del Pan, appeared, due to the fact that the bread stalls were located there. Already in 1914, and due to a request from the neighbors, it was called Plaza de Jesús de la Pasión, in clear reference to the image of the same name in the Church of El Salvador.
The square has a trapezoidal shape with the widest base towards Alcaicería and narrower at Cuesta del Rosario and Villegas. What has characterized this square for centuries has been its centrality value, as it is located in a strategic space, between what was the mosque and the alcaicería, one of whose doors opened onto the square.
