There is a funny story about this shot. It was a brisk January day and I had not accounted for the early sunset. A man’s dog came zooming down the beach chasing off a great blue heron. The owner called ahead apologizing for his dog ruining my shot. I said, “Oh, no worries sir, I was shooting the sunset, not the heron!” I started to pack up my gear and then realized it was about 2 km hike back to my car through a dense forest. I asked him if he was heading back and did he have a flashlight. “No need for a flashlight, maam.” It is not even 2 minutes to the parking lot. I looked at him completely perplexed. “How can that be?” I replied. Well… it turns out that there is a second parking lot further west. I was parked in the main parking lot. He gave me a ride to my car. I ended up leaving my tripod in his van. Luckily, I had given him one of my business cards. He called me the following day; figured it was too late in the evening that night. I had not even noticed that I did not have my tripod. So, I arranged to meet him to pick up my tripod. I bought him lunch. We ended up having a very nice friendship for the past 4 years. He is my father’s age. Quite the character, I may add. My mother though to this day is still scolding me for taking a ride with a stranger :-p
