Description
My first art exhibition in my new home town of Bowling Green, KY was named "36 Views of Fountain Square Park." Yes, I borrowed Katsushika Hokusai’s 184-year-old exhibition name “Thirty-Six Views of Mount Fuji.” In Hokusai’s exhibition, Mt. Fuji is created using Japanese methods at that time: color, perspective, and design with no conventional methods used by Europeans such as cutting off figures in a frame, long, thin paintings of people, low horizons and painting the same view over and over again. I said to myself" what a great theme for my exhibition" and that's how "Sepia Snow" was conceived.
“Sepia Snow in Fountain Square Park” was created with only Daniel Smiths’ Sepia Watercolor. No other medium nor paint was used. The sun or lack of color of the sun was first laid out in a wash, dried completely, then I painted-in the rest. The painting received 1st place in Horticulture magazines’ national art contest called “The Garden Art Competition” and currently resides in the Jerry Baker-Joe Downing Museum collection.

yes Laurel, I don't think I will ever capture the sun like that again..it almost burns your eyes looking at it and its just a w/c...in matter of fact, I had to lace w/c in the name b/c people were kicking me out of contests LOL!!!! have a terrific day boo boo!!!
