Description
Nadine's Painting of Loy's Butte, in the Secret Mountain Wilderness. (Acrylic on Hardboard.) A Forest Preserve which stretches for 50 miles west of Sedona. Check this out in High Definition, by clicking on various areas to see the detail in the work.
Sedona Arizona has over 5 million visitors a year, most come during the summer, so they never see what it looks like in winter. They also seldom see many areas off the two main roads that go through Sedona. To me, this is the time of year when Sedona is the most beautiful, with the contrast of the snow against the Red Rocks that abound in this area.
. . . . . . . . . .
The Red Rock-Secret Mountain Wilderness is a 47,194-acre wilderness area located within the Coconino National Forest in the U.S. state of Arizona. The Wilderness is predominantly wind and water sculpted pinnacles, windows, arches, and slot canyons, and the red-rock cliffs of the Mogollon Rim that mark the edge of the Colorado Plateau.
. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .
Bordered on the east by Sycamore Canyon Wilderness, the high mesas of Secret Mountain and Wilson Mountain jut out into the lower country and canyons as deep as 1,500 feet drain into Oak Creek and the Verde River.
. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .
Prehistoric rock art and abandoned cliff dwellings can be found in the Wilderness.

Nice capture, Bob! Congratulations on the sale, also. I'm sure Nadine's original was stunning! I shoot WIP (Work-In-Progress) images of my work as I go alone from blank canvas to finished product. Not only does it give me a sense of accomplishment on each piece, but it helps me educate those who rarely get to see the steps that an artist takes, and the long hours spent in order to complete the various-sized original paintings. Sure would have been nice to see the original. I'm sure you hear it all the time; "How long did it take you to paint that?" My standard answer is usually "45 years and three weeks!"
Bob and Nadine Johnston replied:
:-) That is Nadine standard answer also. Nadine Was chosen to be the official artist for Verde Valley, Campground Cottonwood with over 250 campsites. They have a turn over every 2 or 3 weeks, with repeat users several times a year. . Their clearing space in the store for her to paint, and sell her paintings. Plus, the Park already ordered four 22 x 28's. They are also going to have her paint Arizona landscapes for the six cabins to go over the bed in the master bedroom. A 4x6 foot Mural for the Main Office of the Grand Canyon. She Is Also painting animals on flat Red Rocks for the store.... has enough commissions already to keep her busy... painting comical signs, to go along the roads to slow the traffic down, etc.. already painted one 4x3ft on the main road into the park with a 10mph limit. :-)

Nadine finished this painting, the original is 50 x 36, and it sold the first day she put it in the store. So I swapped my photograph for her painting, the painting is actually better the photograph. :-)

Not much snow in Sedona when it does, and it can disappear in a few days. But, AZ is a big state for winter sports. Lots of mountains at 6000 feet to 8000 with ski resorts, etc. They had snow earlier this year and more of it, than in about 4 yours... We love the snow it sets off the red rocks so well.
