Scrabble, Anyone? A Re-use, Repurpose Exercise
Mixed Media - Dryer Sheets, Hand Wipes And Watercolor
Mostly Blue Collage called Scrabble, Anyone? an exercise in re-use, re-purpose, recycle using dryer sheets and hand wipes, by Conni Schaftenaar
A couple of years ago I created a 3D iris out of hand wipes. This type of material interests me, and I had also started saving dryer sheets to play with. I took several of them and painted them different shades of blue, using watercolor pigments, and let them dry. I also painted a hand wipe that I had rinsed clean of its cleaner.
When all the pieces were dry, I cut the dryer sheets into narrow strips and the hand wipe into approximate thirds. I had a backer sheet mounted on a board and wove some of the narrow strips of dryer sheet in the varying colors, put some of the hand wipe chunks down, and let everything dry. Later. I put some brighter colors on other pieces of dryer sheet and cut those into squares and oblongs and strips and glued them down on top of the blue strips and pieces.
An FAA friend tells me this makes her think of a Scrabble board, so I decided to pay homage to that with the title. Thanks, Laurel!
