Scenes Of A Maine Pier
Photograph - Photographs
I love the old features of a traditional Maine pier. I love the layers of red granite, that was most likely carved and placed here from the quarry on Mount Desert Island. This pier is located in Southwest Harbor Maine which is a very sweet town on Mount Desert Island. This is the local marina where fishing boats reside and haul in the fish and lobsters sold all over the island. It is also the location for Beal's Lobster Restaurant. It's quite a unique place, very close the Coast Guard and the shops lining the streets of Southwest Harbor. I love the reflections of the wooden planks and the ladder peering down into the water. The tide was low at this time. I would love to see this same scene at high tide. You can see the tide line where the dark granite becomes a lighter color. That's how the boats come in and deliver their catch. So fascinating to see the a working marina and appreciate how they add to our state's economy.
