Description
A very hot and humid morning at the botanical garden. It had rained the night before, so the bugs were out and the flowers were limp. I found an energetic-looking Passion Flower in a shady spot next to the waterfall. Loads of butterflies kept me company as I painted. I was able to block in most of the painting before the sun rose above the tree tops. I moved away from the flower into the shade in order to finish.
Initially, the background details were as clearly-defined as the flower. But, I decided to soften the edges of the background, making it more abstract, in order to allow the flower to take center-stage.
