These giant sandstone rock formations at the Garden of the Gods in Colorado Springs, are the result of uplift of the Earth's crust by tectonic forces. This event occurred about 70 million years ago. These standing rocks are remnants of the Ancestral Rockies. Weathering and erosion have further brought them to their present state.
