Description
This large adult female Hawaiian Monk Seal, hauled out of the sea onto a remote beach on Molokai Island in Hawai'i and immeidately proceeded to roll herself a beautiful sand coat, where only her face was bare. As seen in the dark grey coloration of her face, she was still quite wet. While the sand coating seemed comical, it probably had a practical purpose of cleaning off her hide or providing extra warmth until she dried off in the sun. Perhaps it was simply the seal equivilant of exfoliation that humans often pay good money for.
