The Sainte-Chapelle, meaning the Holy Chapel, is a royal chapel in the Gothic style, within the medieval Palais de la Cité, the residence of the Kings of France until the 14th century, on the Île de la Cité in the River Seine in Paris, France.
In this photo you can see the stained glass windows behind the apse of the upper chapel. It can be reached by narrow stairways in the towers from lower level. The most famous features of the chapel, among the finest of their type in the world, are the fifteen great stained-glass windows in the nave and apse of the upper chapel, which date from the mid-13th century. Those stained-glass windows tell the story of the Bible, from Genesis to the Resurrection of Jesus-Christ. The upper chapel is where the Passion Relics were once held, including Christ's Crown of Thorns, which are now housed in Notre Dame.
The Sainte-Chappelle is a famous tourist attraction in the city of Paris. The line to get into the Cathedral wasn’t that big when we visited this Chapel. The stained glass windows were really exceptional! Whether you are a religious person, you are into church tourism or you have enough free time it is definitely worth paying a visit there!
