Saint Marys Marina Shadows Light And Fire

Painting - Watercolor On 140# Rough Paper
Description
This town is the last chance for cheap gas on the drive down I-95 to Florida. But, its also a great place to stop early and enjoy a stroll around the harbor. We wandered around the waterfront to loosen our legs after a day of driving and as we lingered we were rewarded with a glorious afternoon of near-Gulf Coast light. I have also put up a few photos of St. Marys harbor in my photo gallery.

Thank you, Conni! And, that's some stallion!! I spent a couple of hours walking around St. Mary's and ended up painting for months. Is watercolor not wonderful? Now we're up at Grand Manan Island and I can't wait to get started on some Bay of Fundy stuff. This is the first time that I've had internet in days and I was delighted to receive your comment. Thank you, very much! I did a whole series of Saint Mary's watercolors in 2009, and still have a long list of future Saint Mary's subjects that I'd like to paint -- all from a couple of hours strolling around the harbor. Ism't it wonderful when our minds become obsessed with beautiful moments? - JD

I think I did about a dozen watercolors of St. Mary's over a three or four month period. I really get lost in time when I paint. This was the last of that series. But, it was not the last painting that I started. Just after I got my sketch on the paper for this one I started painting in a different style. I think the last piece in the new style was Repose - II, which is on this site. This ended up as a blend of two styles. I liked it so much that I framed it and kept it for myself. For a self-taught guy, I'm doing O.K. -- if you can see it, you can paint it!

Thank you! I just picked this one up from my framer this afternoon and I can't take my eyes off of it. I'll wait until tomorrow to hang it up. Rearranging the walls is always a challenge. It a pleasure to get positive feedback on my work. I suspect I have zero objectivity on the quality.
