Peri, thank you for your kind comments. I was intrigued by the glimpse of the garden just beyond the door. You are very observant. I believe the "hand" is a Hamsa. The name “hamsa” comes from the Hebrew word “hamesh,” which means five. There are many theories as to what it represents. Some believe it represents the five books of the Torah. Sometimes it is called the Hand of Miriam, after Moses’ sister.

Wonderful photograph! I'm particularly delighted that the door stands slightly ajar, and is topped by a hand ... does it signify the showing of the palm in safe welcome, or is its purpose to request visitors wait? A really lovely composition!
