Description
Sacred Heart Catholic church is on Main Street in Yarmouth Maine. My ancestors help establish the Catholic Church in Yarmouth when they immigrated here from Limerick Ireland. The first Catholic Church was on Cumberland Street, just down the road from my home. The Irish immigrants were not welcome in Yarmouth, as were many Irish born people in the area. They were seen as less than human. This church was built by 1910 and has stood here forevermore. It's a lovely church inside. I am very proud of my Irish ancestor's for having the tenacity and perseverance to build upon their heritage.
