Ruby-throated Hummingbird Missing Feathers On His Neck
Photograph - Photo
Photographic artwork by Cindy Treger. Photographed near Lake Meade, East Berlin, PA. This juvenile male ruby-throated hummingbird (archilochus colubris) was missing a section of its feathers underneath its neck. The other feathers around the neck area appear to be new, so I'm guessing that this is a juvenile that hadn't grown all of its feathers before leaving its nest. I kept an eye on him when he came to the feeders, and eventually his feathers did fill. If anyone has another idea, I'd be glad to hear it.
I authored and included many of my hummingbird photos in a book titled "Ruby-throated Hummingbird Facts and Photos." It has many hummingbird facts that are sure to fascinate you. It is available through Amazon.
