Description

This digital painting was completed in the same style and color range as my San Diego-Sailboats at Sunrise and was intended to be potentially paired with it. Based on an image in the public domain from the Fish and Wildlife Service, the painting is done in a number of layers each painted in a different genre from abstract to classical realism and then overlaid upon one another with adjusted opacities. Finished brushwork is added to the final layer. Both of these images show the texture and brushwork best when purchased as fine art prints on Somerset Velvet paper rather than on canvas which tends to flatten out the feel of texture.

This is another painting I had completed before my hospitalization for leukemia and I apologize in advance for not being able to thank and visit each person who visits or leaves a comment for the time being. As soon as I am physically able and in good recovery from my bone marrow transplant (scheduled for 2/13) I promise to come by and browse through all your lovely works. In the meantime, I cherish and am uplifted by your support.

According to the National Zoo, the Roseate Spoonbill, is "a large wading bird with pink plumage and a distinctive spatulate bill that is one of the most striking birds found in North America. They stand 85 cm tall and have a 1.3 m wingspan. The bare skin of the adult's head has a greenish tinge with a darker black band around the base of the skull. The eyes and legs are red. The feathers of the neck, chest, and upper back are white. The upper wing coverts are red, the tail feathers are orange-pink, and the rest of the body and wing feathers are pale pink. The unique pale grey bill is long, flattened and spoonlike in appearance. Immature birds are paler in color and have feathered heads."
