Painting - Watercolor On Paper
Description
I had fun with this one! I utilized a combination of Rublev brand Prussian Blue and German Vine Black watercolor paint for the background. There is a tiny bit of yellow here and there in the petals but the rose itself is primarily painted with Quinacridone Rose from Daniel Smith. I was going to go back and add some red and possibly black shadow areas but I liked the painting the way it was so I stopped myself. The original is 10"x14" in size and is painted on Arches 140# cold-pressed paper.

Beautiful work, Ken! Marsha is right - sometimes it's difficult to know when to put the brakes on, and in this case you timed it perfectly!

It's always good to know when to stop. They say less is more and this case, it really holds true. Very nice work, Ken. It reminds me of the monochromatic rose I painted awhile back using just one color only made from beet juice.
Ken Powers replied:
Thanks Marsha! If I was planning ahead, I might have added a bit more yellows here and there to keep it from having that monochromatic look. I am happy with it though. And....I didn't have to mess with yucky beets! LOL
