Description
Roosevelt Lake Bridge carries motor vehicles across the Salt River and Roosevelt Lake on Highway 188 near the Theodore Roosevelt Dam. Prior to construction of the bridge in 1990, traffic traveled across the top of the dam on a single lane road that was originally built for vehicles like the Model T Ford. As vehicles grew in size, as did traffic in the area, it was obvious that another crossing was necessary. According to the Bureau of Reclamation "Roosevelt Lake Bridge is the longest two-lane, single-span, steel-arch bridge in North America. The bridge, spans 1,080 feet across Roosevelt Lake providing two-way traffic." In 1995 The Roosevelt Lake Bridge was recognized by the American Consulting Engineers Council as one of the top twelve bridge designs in the United States.
