“I met a strange man in the park”. Surely nothing bad could come of that! I was looking up directions and other park information for the Colleyville Nature Center (Colleyville, TX) on the internet when I saw that there are supposed to be some resident owls there. How to find these owls? After I spend an hour or so photographing geese, I started walking farther into the park, peering into every hole of every dead tree I saw. And there were A LOT! I saw this man walking a dog and carrying a camera with a lens that was easily twice as big as the one I had. I figured he had to be local so I asked him if he knew anything about the owls. He did and since he apparently had nothing better to do, he offered to show me where they lived. On the way, we pointed out all kinds of birds, including this red-shouldered hawk perched high above. Even though the owls were not showing themselves that day, I learned where they nest and hope to make a return trip to see them. But all was not lost as I went back to see the hawk and photograph it for about a half hour! So, meeting a strange man ended up being a good thing in the end.
