I was having lunch at ‘the end of the road’ at Hagerman National Wildlife Refuge near Sherman TX when I saw a couple of cars stopped back along the roadside. The people were standing on the roadside with cameras trained on....something. I tried to determine what they might be looking at but couldn’t see anything from my vantage point. Heading back, I drove very slowly near where the cars had been. Then I saw this red shouldered hawk way up in the tree. His beautiful red color stook out against the bare tree branches of winter and the bright blue sky. He was likely looking for his own lunch!
