Description
The red kite (Milvus milvus) is a medium to large bird of prey in the family Accipitridae. It breeds only in Europe, although it was formerly bred in west Asia and northwest Africa. It was once only found in the milder parts of its range in western Europe and northwestern Africa. Most red kites in northern mainland Europe migrated south and west for the winter, but an increasing number now remain in that region year-round. Vagrants have been sighted as far north as Finland and as far south as Israel, Libya, and Gambia.
