Queen Emma Crinum Lilies
Artist
Ellen Henneke
Medium
Painting
Description
Extreme realism watercolor painting of burgundy and white Queen Emma lilies or Giant Spider Lilies (Botanical name: Crinum augustum). Native to the Seychelles and Mauritius in the western Indian Ocean, Queen Emma lilies grow and increase vigorously in suitable conditions, and bloom continuously, but most heavily in springtime. The thick, burgundy, succulent flower stems are topped by mophead-like spidery clusters of large fragrant flowers with narrow pale pink-burgundy to nearly white petals.

Congrats for the sales. My exact same lilies just burst into blooming - Seminole, Florida here :))

Really striking painting Ellen. The lily is almost like a combination of two indigenous Australian lilies: The white Crinum Lily and the red Gymea Lily.
Ellen Henneke replied:
Thank you, Alison. They could very well be your Australian lilies, as the Fairchild Botanic Garden in Florida, where these lilies live, is home to plants from all over the world. Thanks, too, for the info.
