Painting - Watercolor
Crisp fall leaves surround pumpkins ready for picking.
This ended up being a great example of how to create positive and negative shapes within a painting.
I drew the composition for this painting with my one-year-old daughter sitting beside me,. She was so attentive and didn't move a muscle, but watched my every move as I drew. The still life, that was my inspiration, was set up as a holiday decoration and didn't have an outdoor feel to it, so I added the leaves and vines to make it feel more like pumpkins in a pumpkin patch.
The original painting sold to a poet that lives nearby me. This poet added this painting to her seasonal collection and, when not in the fall season, she stores it in a climate controlled room. I love knowing that the original is so well taken care of.
Later, I discovered that this poet use to work for a woman who wrote my favorite book as a kid--A Wrinkle In Time. A book that made me fall in love with reading and a book that I later read to my kids. Which makes this painting even more special to me. Madeleine L'Engle has since passed away, but her legend lives on through her fabulous books.
These make great fall-themed greeting cards as well as an excellent addition to fall decor. Suited for both the Halloween and the Thanksgiving holiday.
