I was surprised and pleased to look out my window and see this Prairie Falcon in my yard. I have a fascination for raptors so this was a real treat for me. As I researched this bird I became more enamored with it. This falcon cruises at 45 miles per hour and accelerates during the hunt. While it does eat other birds its main food source is rodents. Even more reason to like it! Elbert, Colorado
The prairie falcon is a medium-large sized falcon of western North America. It is about the size of a peregrine falcon or a crow, with an average length of 40 cm, wingspan of approximately 1 meter, and average weight of 720 g. As in all falcons, females are noticeably bigger than males. Wikipedia
