Description
The iconic landmark 'The Portland Head Lighthouse' which ranks amongst the most photographed lighthouses in the US. For my Transparent Watercolor rendition I wanted to achieve colorful weather effects to complement the beauty of the subject and movement that adds life. The waves crashing against the rocks bring into focus the protection provided to mariners. The seagulls are being blown in varied directions by the gusts of wind. The distant sailboats also add life to the painting without detracting from the star of the show. Construction was under the direction of George Washington and the lighthouse came into operation on January 10, 1791. Longfellow was born in Portland and it is said that his many visits to Portland Head inspired his famous poem "The Lighthouse".
Bill has been painting and selling his artworks and prints for over 30 years and they are collected worldwide.
