Description
While in California I visited Ventura Beach to take in the ocean air and discover birds, rocks and anything else to keep in remembrance. These are Snowy Plovers checking out the wet sandy shore and looking for food. They were running up to the wave breaks and then running back to the wet sand turning every which way as they scurried around.
Snowy Plovers (Charadrius nivosus) are actually declining in their populations due to nesting disturbances by humans who get too close to their nests and cause them to stay away from them. They eat crustaceans, insects and marine worms that they forage for on the flat wet sand.
