Description
This caught my eye while in Mississippi recently. I believe it is a Loblolly Pine tree. It is the second most common tree in America after the red maple and the most important commercial lumber tree in the SE US. It is named thus because it grows in low areas and swampy terrain. In England the word ‘lob’ referred to a porridge-like consistency. In the US it meant mud hole or mire.

In addition to the banner, I am adding this more permanent recognition of its FEATURE on the homepage of A TREE OR TREES IN BLACK AND WHITE. I try mightily to feature only images that would be at home in a juried competition. No doubt that this image fits that bill. CONGRATULATIONS!
