Description
Flamingos have been dying by the thousands along the East African Rift lakes of Kenya and Tanzania. However, scientists are baffled as to the reason. Possible causes researchers have noted include avian cholera, botulism, metal poisoning, pesticides, and poisonous bacteria. Also, fears for the future of the Lesser Flamingo, Phoeniconaias minor, have been raised by plans to pipe water from one of their key breeding areas, the shores of Lake Natron. The lakes are crucial to the birds' breeding success because the flamingos feed off the blooms of cyanobacteria that thrive there

How much better this is than most of the flamingo photos I've seen. Love the serpentine neck and the really excellent sharpness from front to back. Great photo, Robert! Voted. -- Joe.
