Painting - Prismacolor Colored Pencil And Raffiné Watercolor Pencil On Duralar Film
Description
Peanut - A Sweet Cat Portrait in colored pencil and watercolor pencil, by Conni Schaftenaar
Did this to be a Christmas gift to a friend from a photo she had taken of her cat, Peanut. Image used with permission, now hope she loves it!
This is a combination of Prismacolor colored pencil and Raffiné watercolor pencil - I was trying to get the background area in the upper right to be fairly abstract, and it just wasn't working in colored pencil. So I erased all that I had done in that area (Duralar allows you to literally erase everything - sweet!) and then started using two or three colors of watercolor pencil, wetting the pencil tip, scraping color down, then using a damp brush to manipulate it around. I was much happier with that. Part of the ferns are colored pencil and most of the ferns are WC pencil, activated after putting some color down, again using a damp brush. Then WC pencil on the bricks around the cat. The cat itself is a combo of WC pencil (not activated) and colored pencil, depending on the colors I wanted. You can burnish WC pencil and colored pencil with another color on the Duralar, so there are layers of colors in the cat's fur. The eyes are WC pencil, activated, two colors to get that golden green shade.

Conni, WHAT a difference a day makes!! I LOVE how you get a different FEEL and vibe for the painting in each position!! This “landscape”, reclining view gives the lighting a “dreamy-sleepy” feel to the cat’s eyes…her personality is one of a “sleepy kitty”… rather than her upright pose in her newly posted “ portrait” version which shows her personality as a hide-and-seek “coquette”!! …This is SUCH a wonderful example of POV…Perspective…and versatility in HOW one views one’s world, creates one’s painting, tells one’s story…I am hoping to see this one in the BUZZ…This is truly AWEsome!!..LF
