Description
Pat Branch Brook Lion in Autumn by Regina Geoghan. Art Branch Brook Lion in Autumn by Regina Geoghan. Art, one of a pair of lion statues that are located in the Southern section of Branch Brook Park, seen here with a background of rich, vibrant Fall season foliage colors. The Prudential Lions were installed in the Newark, New Jersey park in 1959, gifted by the Prudential Insurance Company of America. The seven feet tall, 2,900 pound lions are carved limestone sculptures, each with a front paw resting on a sphere. They were created in 1911 by sculptor Karl Bitter and were placed to guard the doorway of the Newark Prudential Insurance Company building. When that building was demolished in 1956, they were removed and then restored in 2011.
