What can I say? I love being a dad! And I'm not just a dad…
I'm Max's dad! :-)

I'm not sure what the best part is but I do believe that passing on a few of my values will be a great experience - for both of us. Captured at Fisher Towers, Utah.

How I Got The Shot
This image was born as a mental vision that came in response to a photograph I saw years ago - even before Max was conceived. Then with Max old enough, I found a spot near Fisher Towers and Moab, Utah as a good candidate for making the vision come to life.

Max is still a bit too young to do this at night so we shot a few images in the afternoon hours. I confirmed my camera position, lens choice, and composition. Then with an rf remote in-hand, Max and I took turns firing the camera remotely while posing on the rock in the upper right.

Then I marked the position of the tripod legs with rocks so I could return to the exact same spot later that night. When I returned, I set up the tent and the lighting before shooting 3 separate stacks of images.

• Focused Close (on the tent) - 11 Images
• Focused Far (on the furthest bush) - 11 images
• Focused on Sky - 17 images (using an even higher ISO setting & shorter exposure speed)

After stacking all 3 sequences using Starry Landscape Stacker, the result was much improved in terms of noise reduction. I then blended the 3 resulting images plus the single image with the darkened silhouette together in Photoshop using traditional layers & masks.
