Palo Verde Trees
Painting - Oil On Canvas
The name Palo Verde translated to Spanish means "green stick." The bark of a palo verde tree is green because it's filled with chlorophyll. Unlike most trees, this plant gets a lot of photosynthesizing done through its bark. It's the Arizona State Tree! This genus is called the Desert Museum and can grow to 30 feet and live 100-400 years. The flowers and seeds are edible, like on your next salad. Though they shed their yellow flowers, they are not known to contribute to seasonal allergies.
This painting was made for one of my nephew's so it is not for sale. However, prints and products are available. The palo verde tree begins to drop it leaves almost as quickly as they begin blooming. In this image, the mountains in the background are part of the McDowell Mountain Range north of Scottsdale, Arizona.
The artist, Mary Deal, is also an award-winning multi-genre author of mystery/thrillers, a short story collection, writers' reference books and self-help. Read about it here: http://tinyurl.com/3z8pm3f
