Title
Palo Verde On Rocky Hillside
Artist
Judy Kennedy
Medium
Photograph - Photography
Description
Palo Verde means “green wood” in Spanish - and that’s what these trees have — a smooth green bark with thorns on branches with small leaves. In late April the trees turn a brilliant golden yellow from the beautiful flowers they make. But this tree was photographed on a bright day during the autumn of 2017. It still carries a unique beauty made all the more emblematic of the southwest situated on a rocky hillside shading a red-barrel cactus. The Palo Verde is the state tree of Arizona and just one of the many natural wonders of the Sonoran Desert.
