Description
I just recently learned about Painted Lady butterflies. They look similar to Monarchs but are a very different butterfly. When our area experienced an invasion of Painted ladies while they were migrating north. I've never seen so many butterflies. Cars on surface streets sometimes pulled over so as not to hit them. On the smaller freeways, cars slowed down or pulled off on the side so as not to cause harm to them. It was an incredible experience. I found this photo I had taken a few years ago and immediately saw it was a Painted Lady! I love the photo however. I love the play of the shadows and the light.

nice photo. I would like to have been where you were when all those butterflies were migrating, lucky you! L/F
Julieanne Case replied:
It was an amazing experience. I tried to do a video and finally I pointed the video at an avocado tree so you could see the butterflies flitting across! Then when you are driving to see cascades of them coming off the tall eucalyptus trees but heading toward all the cars was crazy wild. Even when it wasn't that many, enough so you cringed when you saw some get hit.
