Description
The only good place to view the ostriches at a nature center in Texas is from afar. They are the scariest animals in the park! When I see them I can’t get Jurassic Park out of my head! My first encounter with the ostriches at this park was back in 2002. I had a 2001 Honda Accord which sits low to the ground and which had not had its first dent yet. The ostrich came close to the car and we thought ‘how fun is this!’. It was huge, standing taller than the car so that we had to look up at its head. Then it started pecking at my car! It pecked at the front hood and would not move aside! We were being held hostage by this giant creature! Not to mention that it was the first scratch on my new car! Hahahaha, I couldn’t get away from them fast enough. The next couple of times that I visited this drive-though park, I was forewarned and took some photos while it was well away from the car. As it purposely strode toward my car, I rolled up my windows and drove on. Jurassic Park was fun at the movies but it is no fun in real life. Here is one giving me the stink eye. The ostrich is a large flightless bird native to Africa but it can run for a long time at speeds upward of 30 mph, with bursts up to 42 mph. Scary indeed!

You are right Joan, they are scary and don't care much about the paint on your new car! Well captured and processed here. A picture from afar is a good thing with these birds!
