Description
This is a plein aire I painted in 1996 and recently found in a matboard shipping box. It’s in pristine condition and looks as fresh and immediate as the day it was painted. Plein aire paintings have to be simplified to the most vital subjects and keeping them uncluttered, in my opinion, is the best way to do them.

I painted this many years ago and as is my wont I put it away for 25 years. A tip for watercolorists: store your paintings in a dry, dark and bug free place. Roaches will eat certain paints. Ultra blue is a tasty treat for them. I’ve had to repaint several paintings that were stored up. Moisture will produce mold and discolor them. Use only acid free mats and backing board if they’re framed. If not, over time the non-acid free materials degrade and release chemicals that will turn your painting brown where they touch your picture. I know from experience.
