Sometimes you’re zooming down the highway and something a couple of hundred yards away that you have no reason to even see outside of your peripheral vision causes your mind to totally focus. By the time I realized that I had seen this old farm house I was already past the road that I would have had to turn on to in order to get a little closer look. It would have made a perect twilight vignette, but jamming on the brakes can really anoy drivers on your six.
Eight days later, coming back from another South Carolina run, I was ready for the cut off. The light was too bright, the sky too clear and the details too sharp. I took a dozen or so photos anyhow. I should probably post a few of them, but there’s something so haunting in the painful silence of these old country places that you feel you have to treat them reverentially. Here’s to the generations that built and lived in and called this country classic “home.” Here’s to better dreams.
