Description
This bronze statue of Franz Kafka, created by Juroslav Rona and dedicated in 2003, stands next to a small park at the entrance to the Spanish Synagogue in the Jewish Quarter of Prague. Born and raised in this same area, Kafka (1883-1924) is perhaps the most noted writer of the city. In his early short story, Description of a Struggle, Kafka wrote of a young man riding on the shoulders of another man through the streets of Prague. In the unique sculpture by Rona the young man atop this headless man is Kafka. Perhaps the two young girls playing at the base of the statue are looking for its missing feet. Copyright 2012 Ann Horn. Great shot, Ann. The first thing I thought of for the "man" that the young man is riding is a horse. Interesting statue, just like Kafka. :) Vote.

Thank you for your generous and thoughtful response, Frank. I have not read any Kafka, but after seeing this statue, like you, I think I should do so.
