Description
The North Fork of the Toutle River, in the state of Washington, USA. The upstream view shows the blue Toutle River during the drought of 2012. A few of the trees can be seen dying in the distance, and the river is quite low, but the scene has been left as it looked that day. A very pretty and realistic nature scene, with a smidge of blue sky and no people.
The Toutle River, to my understanding, has its origins at Spirit Lake, adjacent to Mount St. Helen, so to me this seems like sacred ground, for 57 people died as a result of the cataclysmic eruption of Mount St. Helens on May 18, 1980.
The river is significant for this reason too: The dinosaur coprolites on display at the Houston Museum of Natural Science were found in this river. My grandchildren loved learning (when they asked how old I was) that "I've walked on the same dirt the dinosaurs walked on." Wow! was their response in unison. You will find that coprolites image in my Gems, Minerals, and Fossils Gallery.
