Description
In 1884, George Storck built this barn just south of Adel, Iowa. Extensive renovation and restoration work began in 2005 by the current owners. The main beams or posts are 10" square, rather than the 8” square often used. The barn measures 60 feet by 68 feet, and is 44 feet tall. The limestone foundation is 34" thick at the bottom, and tapered to 17" at the top. In this view, the track along the south side, the longer side, holds different sized doors and windows which allow access and ventilation into the barn, as needed. The cupolas have been maintained and definitely add some character.
