Description
The NSCU smokestack is an iconic feature of the Raleigh, NC, campus. The State College moniker reflects the schools 1917 name change from North Carolina College of Agriculture and Mechanic Arts to North Carolina State College of Agriculture and Engineering. The schools current name, the fifth in university history, was established in 1965--North Carolina State University at Raleigh.
The North Carolina General Assembly established in NCSU on 7 March 1887. The 1862 Morrill Act, passed by the US Congress, offered federal land to states for the establishment of colleges to teach "agriculture and mechanic arts." North Carolina College of Agriculture and Mechanic Arts opened in the fall of 1889 with 72 students, six faculty, and one building (Main Hall--today, known as Holladay Hall). Today, NCSU boasts 35,000+ students, with a reputation as one the nation's leading public institutions of higher education.
The NCSU Smokestack is a perfect gift for your favorite Wolfpack alumnus or fan.
